Some variations to this recipe include adding lemons, oranges, and herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and star anise. People can add these ingredients along with the base ingredients.

Serving suggestions

Anecdotally, people usually take 1–2 tablespoons daily as an immune booster. However, people who find the tonic strong can dilute it in a glass of water. Some people may only take it if they feel a cold coming or to help warm themselves up during the winter season.

We are a little over a week into the new year and hopefully you are hitting your marks with your new year’s resolution.

The majority of people set their goals around weight loss or better health.

Both of these can be achieved through a number of ways. My favorite way is fasting.

I know. When I say fasting some might recoil at the idea of not eating for an extended period of time. Some picture Ghandi going weeks without food. But the truth is, it doesn’t have to be so hard, and in many cases it is quite enjoyable.

There are two methods that deliver the benefits of Fasting, without the extended hardships many perceive of going without food. The two more popular methods of fasting are Intermittent Fasting, which has been around for quite some time now, and Fasting Mimicking, which is a little newer on the scene.

Intermittent Fasting:

Intermittent fasting is a type of fasting where you abstain from food for a set period of time. There are many different types of intermittent fasting, but the most common is the 16/8 method, where you fast for 16 hours and then eat during the other 8 hours. Some people find it difficult to give up food for any amount of time, while others feel liberated by the opportunity to break free from what they see as an unhealthy addiction. Regardless of how you feel about not eating anything at all for days on end, there are some facts about intermittent fasting that make it worth considering if you want to get healthier or lose weight.

One of the main benefits of intermittent fasting is that it’s easier to stick to than traditional fasting, but it’s also easier to do if you’ve failed at diets in the past. Many people who have had problems losing weight or keeping it off in the past find that intermittent fasting makes it possible for them to continue controlling their diet without having to put so much effort into it. Fasting may also increase your lifespan and help you live a healthier lifestyle.
Concurrent to intermittent fasting, fasting mimicking is a diet plan that looks to mimic the benefits of fasting with less severe restriction. A person might eat 25 percent of their normal caloric intake for five days per week, and then they would go back to eating as they normally would on the other two weekdays.

Fast Mimicking:

Fasting Mimicking is a diet plan designed to be easier than traditional fasts. The idea behind Fasting Mimicking is not to restrict caloric intake as much as possible so that the person can still maintain their daily activities without feeling too hungry or weak. Over five days per week, a person might eat 25 percent of their normal caloric intake and then they would go back to eating as they normally would on the other two weekdays.

Fasting Mimicking is more lenient than traditional fasts because it only requires that you abstain from eating one or two days at a time.

One of the most successful forms of Fasting Mimicking is known as ProLon, which is a 5-day program that includes five servings of 100 calories every day. Each serving has 23 essential nutrients to help keep people healthy during the fast, and the foods are also vegan-friendly. One of the most popular items in ProLon is a dessert made out of olives. With these small changes, you can still get all the benefits of fasting without feeling deprived.

While most people think of fasting as abstaining from food for up to three weeks, the reality is that most people do better with shorter bouts of abstinence. While longer fasts might seem easier because you don’t have to deal with hunger pangs every day, intermittent fasting has actually shown to be more effective at helping people lose weight and improve their health. Fasting Mimicking is much more like intermittent fasting than traditional fasts because it does not require that you go without food for long periods of time.

The Difference Between Intermittent Fasting And Fast Mimicking

Intermittent Fasting is when you abstain from food for a set period of time each day. You can choose to either eat nothing or to have some calorie-free beverages during those periods of time. Caster oil is pressed from the caster bean and has long had the bad rap of horrible taste that is used as a punishment for children that won’t behave OR as a laxative.

But there is so much more to this oil that offers many various health benefits. About 2 years ago my husband showed me how it helped with my chronic dry eyes and actually improved my vision.

Today I want to share with you some of my favorite benefits we have realized from Caster Oil and why you should consider including it in your New Years makeover, or your regular routine.

Caster Oil For Eyes:

I lead in with this one because it literally opened my eyes to the wonders of this oil.

According to Web MD, “Castor oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it safe for your eyes and boost tear film lipids. Lasting effects. Another benefit to castor oil eye drops is how long they last. Studies show that they may stay in your eyes up to 4 hours.”

  • Dry eyes. Castor oil adds lubrication to the eyes to decrease dry eyes.
  • Inflammation. Castor oil can reduce irritation and inflammation in the eyes.
  • Eye infections. By improving circulation and lubrication, castor oil can help prevent eye infections.
  • Cataracts. Castor oil can potentially improve vision that has been damaged by age-related cataracts.
  • The appearance of eyelashes. Castor oil can make eyelashes look fuller and improve luster.
  • Dark circles and under eye wrinkles. Improving skin hydration can lessen dark circles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles under your eyes.

Castor oil stimulates tissue growth so that a barrier can be formed between the wound and the environment, decreasing the risk of infection.

It also reduces dryness and cornification, the buildup of dead skin cells that can delay wound healing.

Studies have found that ointments containing castor oil may be especially helpful in healing pressure ulcers, a type wound that develops from prolonged pressure on the skin.

One study looked at the wound-healing effects of an ointment containing castor oil in 861 nursing home residents with pressure ulcers.

Reduces Acne:

Acne is a skin condition that can cause blackheads, pus-filled pimples and large, painful bumps on the face and body.

It’s most common in teens and young adults and can negatively impact self-esteem.
Castor oil has several qualities that may help reduce acne symptoms.
Inflammation is thought to be a factor in the development and severity of acne, so applying castor oil to the skin may help reduce inflammation-related symptoms

Acne is also associated with an imbalance of certain types of bacteria normally found on the skin, including Staphylococcus aureus

Castor oil has antimicrobial properties that may help fight bacterial overgrowth when applied to the skin.

A bright white smile is something everyone wants, but with COVID it can be hard to get to the dentist and the at home kits are hit and miss, some with harsh chemicals in them that can damage the enamel on your teeth.

What if there was a simple to follow method, that uses safe and natural ingredients you already have in your home, that can give you the smile that you want in just a few minutes, right in your own home. Simple and easy!

Check out this video that shows you how to completely remove Dental plaque in 2 minutes without a trip to the dentist.

Ingredients Needed:

  • 2 TBSP Baking Soda
  • 4” of Toothpaste
  • 1 TSP Lemon
  • 1 TBSP Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 TSPCoconut Oil

Take this and mix it for 2-3 minutes or until it is a evenly blended and smooth.

Next you will need a square of foil (roughly 4” )

Tear the foil in half and then fold the foil and pour some of the treatment into the foil and use it as a tray to put on your lower jaw.

Repeat this process and make another tray for your upper jaw.

Wear this for 2-3 minutes and the treatment will soften the plaque on your teeth.

Grab a toothbrush and use the remaining treatment to give your teeth an extended brush for 2-3 min and the plaque will come right off your teeth.

January 1st is right around the corner and you need to get your mind and spirit around your resolutions now if you are going to stand a chance at accomplishing them.

So we found a list of the 70 BEST New Year’s Resolution that is sure to inspire you to take action now and set yourself up for success.

With that said, here we go:

1. Drink plenty of water

This may be one of the most common New Year’s resolution ideas…
But, that doesn’t make it a bad one!
We could all use a little more water in our daily lives. You can keep track of your water intake with an app, journal (free printable) or a marked water bottle.

2. Move more, sit less

Between desk jobs, long commutes, and stay-at-home orders, I think we’re all guilty of sitting too much. And it turns out that sitting is the new smoking (it’s terrible for your health).
So:
Make it a goal to start taking daily walks, going for bike rides, or even running. Just something to get you up and moving a little more often.

3. Make plans to take a mini adventure

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there’s quite a bit of uncertainty about the future. So setting a goal for big travel plans might still be a bit out of reach at this point.
But with vaccine boosters starting to be rolled out and hopeful predictions of the virus being under control by Spring of 2022, a mini expedition could be pretty doable.
You might take a camping trip, visit the next town over, or explore some National Parks. There are 6 opportunities for you to visit National Parks for free in the upcoming year!
Whatever you do, just shake up your usual routine and of course, stay safe.

4. Prioritize eco-friendly choices

Making a positive impact in the world might feel futile as an average person.
Little decisions add up as a whole, though. Voting with your wallet is an important step you can take towards being more eco-friendly.

5. Volunteer more often

There a lot of mores on this New Year’s resolutions list, huh?
Well, that’s because the goal of self-improvement is to enrich our lives, so we have to add MORE to it!
And volunteering time to help improve your community is a great way to give back.

6. Adopt an attitude of gratitude

The simple act of giving thanks has scientifically proven benefits.
Gratitude is a small perspective shift, but it can significantly change your life. Kickstart this personal goal with a gratitude journal like this.

7. Send handwritten letters

Older folks, like grandparents & aunts/uncles, LOVE getting snail mail.
Brighten a relative’s day and get in touch with your offline self by sending a few handwritten letters this upcoming year.

Many Americans fill up their glass from the faucet without a second thought of the dangers that might be lurking in their water supply.

If the Crisis of lead tainted water in Flint, Michigan taught us anything, it’s that potable tap water is not a given in America any longer.

A study from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) exposes a widespread problem: the drinking water of a majority of Americans contains Forever Chemicals and these compounds can take hundreds, or even thousands of years to break down in the environment.

They can also persist in the human body and potentially cause health problems.

A handful of states have set about trying to address these contaminants, which are scientifically known as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). But no federal limits have been set on the concentration of the chemicals in water, as they have for other pollutants such as benzene, uranium and arsenic. With a new presidential administration coming into office this week, experts say the federal government finally needs to remedy that oversight. “The PFAS pollution crisis is a public health emergency,” wrote Scott Faber, EWG’s senior vice president for government affairs, in a recent public statement.

Of the more than 9,000 known PFAS compounds, 600 are currently used in the U.S. in countless products, including firefighting foam, cookware, cosmetics, carpet treatments and even dental floss. Scientists call PFASs “forever chemicals” because their chemistry keeps them from breaking down under typical environmental conditions. “One of the unique features of PFAS compounds is the carbon-fluorine bond,” explains David Andrews, a senior scientist at EWG. “That bond is incredibly strong.” Ultimately this means that if PFASs enter the environment, they build up. These chemicals can linger on geologic time scales, explains Chris Higgins, a civil and environmental engineer at the Colorado School of Mines.
Because of their widespread use, release and disposal over the decades, PFASs show up virtually everywhere: in soil, surface water, the atmosphere, the deep ocean—and even the human body. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Web site says that the agency has found PFASs in the blood of nearly everyone it has tested for them, “indicating widespread exposure to these PFAS in the U.S. population.” Scientists have found links between a number of the chemicals and many health concerns—including kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, liver damage, developmental toxicity, ulcerative colitis, high cholesterol, pregnancy-induced preeclampsia and hypertension, and immune dysfunction.
Concerned about PFASs’ persistence and potential harm, Andrews and his EWG colleague Olga Naidenko set out to assess Americans’ exposure to the chemicals via their drinking water. PFASs can get into this water in a variety of ways. For example, industrial sites might release the compounds into the water or air. Or they can leach from disposal sites. They can also percolate into groundwater from the firefighting foams used at airports and military bases. Andrews and Naidenko say there is a need for research into drinking-water levels because the federal government does not require testing water for PFASs. This leaves a gap in scientists’ understanding of overall exposure. Andrews and Naidenko focused their analysis on two types of these chemicals—perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS)—because those compounds had the most available data. The two researchers pulled that information together from various sources, including state agencies, the federal government and the EWG’s own measurements.

The scientists estimated that more than 200 million people—the majority of Americans—have tap water contaminated with a mixture of PFOA and PFOS at concentrations of one part per trillion (ppt) or higher. Andrews and Naidenko say previous research shows that levels higher than one ppt can increase the risk of conditions such as testicular cancer, delayed mammary gland development, liver tumors, high cholesterol and effects on children’s immune response to vaccinations. “It’s a calculation of what would be a safe exposure level,” Andrews says. Even when the researchers shifted their analysis to a higher level of 10 ppt, they still found some 18 million to 80 million Americans to be exposed. Representatives of the chemical industry have disagreed with such concerns. “We believe there is no scientific basis for maximum contaminant levels lower than 70 ppt,” the American Chemistry Council said in statement to Scientific American.

Experts not involved in the new research, which was published recently in Environmental Science & Technology Letters, say these findings are exactly what they had expected—and that is troubling. “This is going to be kind of sad, but I wasn’t at all surprised that they exist in many different water systems and that many, many people are getting exposed through their drinking water,” says Jamie DeWitt, an associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine. Zhanyun Wang, an environmental scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, raises concerns about how widespread this class of chemicals is. “It’s a little bit scary that it is so prevalent in the U.S., which has quite a big population,” he says. “Now that we know that PFAS has a rather low safety level.”

Here we are. End of 2021 and getting ready to spring into 2022.

While 2021 really just seemed like an extension of 2020, most people I speak with have a hopeful outlook for what 2022 will bring.

A big tradition of this time of year is setting new year’s resolutions and for too many these resolutions end up being a list of failures within the first 45-60 days of setting out to conquer them.

What if I told you there is a sure fire way to absolutely crush your resolutions with just 5 simple steps? Would you be interested in learning how you can become that better you, you always wanted to be?

If the answer is YES, then Great! Stick with me here for a few more minutes and you will be well on your way to a successful 2022.

The first step is to really narrow your focus down onto fewer things you want to accomplish. Trying to do too many is just setting yourself up for failure.

Make sure the things you are narrowing your list down to are important to you and will have a big impact on your life in some way measurable and significant.
Next Step is to take your time, and really evaluate deeply into the “WHY” you want to accomplish this task? Write down the answers to these questions …

Why do you want to accomplish this task?
What will change for you when you accomplish this task?
How will you feel when you accomplish this task?
How will people around you feel / look at you when you accomplish this task?

NEXT Is to determine what success actually is and how you will measure it.

To say I resolve to quit drinking is great and there are a lot of benefits to it as well. However, to think that it starts one day and you can never go back, well that is a recipe for a lot of stress and potential failure early on.

Instead, consider setting a timeline that has rewards. Making big changes like this work more like a wave washing up on the shore. It washes up and then retreats to wash up again.

So instead of just stopping drinking all together, I would set a goal to go 5 days without a drink and then a reward of some kind (could be a light night on the town with a drink or two).

Determine what the reward is in advance and set a hard limit to how much of it can be, especially if your reward is what you are attempting to move away from.

Doing it this way allows you to wean off and challenge yourself on a smaller scale each time.

NEXT Step is to plan to be an overachiever!

This is the one that makes all the difference for me.

During my planning, I set what Success would look like and then plan to overachieve significantly.

Everybody slips a bit over time. We are all gung ho in the beginning, but we will slide down over time. It is inevitable.

Instead of beating yourself up over this, plan to start out where your goal is to be a 7 out of 10. Then take action like you are shooting to be a 12 out of 10.

You will get better results right out the gate AND when you do start to fatigue, you are more comfortable with yourself because you know you are going to settle in and normalize at that 7 that you were planning for.

This trick really works great and keeps morale high for the long term.

And At Long Last…

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you crack. The fact that you are taking the time and effort to plan this out and really know what you want means you are already heads and shoulders over the masses out there who blindly blurt out their resolution at a late night party and break it before their feet hit the ground the next morning.

The best part about giving yourself permission to crack, is it allows you to acknowledge that you slipped up and evaluate why.

What made you slip?
How could you have avoided that ?

And most importantly, how are you going to get back on the horse?

Winning at resolutions is really a series of smaller battles that win the war.
