More than 500 Secaucus residents who live in or near the Xchange at Secaucus Junction will be represented by different councilmen after the town changed the boundaries of two of its three wards earlier this month.
According to Secaucus officials and Michael Harper, the clerk of the Hudson County Board of Elections, the area between Frank Lautenberg Station and Venture Way that was previously in Ward 3 District 2 is now part of Ward 1 District 3.
The redistricting, which affected 530 residents, puts Ward 1’s registered voter population at 6,749 and Ward 3’s at 6,768. The change went into effect at the town’s board of elections meeting on March 24, and will be reflected in the town’s next election in June.
The remapping means the affected residents will now be represented by Ward 1 Councilmen Gary Jeffas and Robert Costantino. Residents of Ward 3 will continue to be represented by Council members Susan Pirro and William McKeever.
Secaucus has three wards and two council members to represent each one.
Voters in Secaucus Xchange who previously had to travel north toward Harmon Boulevard to vote, will now be polling at the Washington Hook & Ladder firehouse at 272 County Avenue. (Read More)
